RJC girl Wee Shu Min gets slammed by netizens

RJC girl Ms Wee Shu Min (Centre) was forced to shut down her blog after nasty comments from netizens - http://xialanxue.blogspot.com

Users in at least 3 of the top singaporean forums (EDMW, SGForums, Sammyboyforum) have slammed 18 year old RJC student Ms Wee Shu Min, daughter of Ang Mo Kio GRC MP Wee Siew Kim, for her response to a blog posting by Mr Derek Wee which was put up as a result of his frustration of not being able to have his views aired on the Straits Times Forum Page.

Ms Wee Shu Min subsequently deleted her blog but the entry she posted has been reproduced in a number of forums and blogs and heated discussions are still ongoing at the time of this report.

The following was taken from Ms Wee's blog before it was shut down:

Thursday, October 19, 2006

mom's friend sent her some blog post by some bleeding stupid 40-year old singaporean called derek wee (WHY do all the idiots have my surname why?!) whining about how singapore is such an insecure place, how old ppl (ie, 40 and above) fear for their jobs, how the pool of foreign "talent" (dismissively chucked between inverted commas) is really a tsunami that will consume us all (no actually he didn't say that, he probably said Fouren Talern Bery Bad.), how the reason why no one wants kids is that they're a liability in this world of fragile ricebowls, how the government really needs to save us from inevitable doom but they aren't because they are stick-shoved-up-ass elites who have no idea how the world works, yadayadayadayada.

i am inclined - too much, perhaps - to dismiss such people as crackpots. stupid crackpots. the sadder class. too often singaporeans - both the neighborhood poor and the red-taloned socialites - kid themselves into believing that our society, like most others, is compartmentalized by breeding. ridiculous. we are a tyranny of the capable and the clever, and the only other class is the complement.

sad derek attracted more than 50 comments praising him for his poignant views, joining him in a chorus of complaints that climax at the accusation of lack of press freedom because his all-too-true views had been rejected by the straits times forum. while i tend to gripe about how we only have one functioning newspaper too, i think the main reason for its lack of publication was that his incensed diatribe was written in pathetic little scraps that passed off as sentences, with poor spelling and no grammar.

derek, derek, derek darling, how can you expect to have an iron ricebowl or a solid future if you cannot spell?

if you're not good enough, life will kick you in the balls. that's just how things go. there's no point in lambasting the government for making our society one that is, i quote, "far too survival of fittest". it's the same everywhere. yes discrimination exists, and it is sad, but most of the time if people would prefer hiring other people over you, it's because they're better. it's so sad when people like old derek lament the kind of world that singapore will be if we make it so uncertain. go be friggin communist, if uncertainty of success offends you so much - you will certainly be poor and miserable. unless you are an arm-twisting commie bully, which, given your whiny middle-class undereducated penchant, i doubt.

then again, it's easy for me to say. my future isn't certain but i guess right now it's a lot brighter than most people's. derek will read this and brand me as an 18-year old elite, one of the sinners who will inherit the country and run his stock to the gutter. go ahead. the world is about winners and losers. it's only sad when people who could be winners are marginalised and oppressed. is dear derek starving? has dear derek been denied an education? has dear derek been forced into child prostitution? has dear derek had his clan massacred by the government?

i should think not. dear derek is one of many wretched, undermotivated, overassuming leeches in our country, and in this world. one of those who would prefer to be unemployed and wax lyrical about how his myriad talents are being abandoned for the foreigner's, instead of earning a decent, stable living as a sales assistant. it's not even about being a road sweeper. these !!^#bags don't want anything without "manager" and a name card.

please, get out of my elite uncaring face.

posted at 12:08 PM

Following the saga, Ms Wee posted a public apology on one of the blogs that were involved in the discussion over her entry.

shu-min says
dear wei kiat,

i apologise if i have distressed you with my tendency to rant. while i will not dispute some of the points you make in response to what i have written, i would like to bring to your attention the fact that the post in question was never meant to be a cogent response to the specific points raised in derek wee's article. it is, quite obviously, a rant in the heat of the moment. in addition, i don't believe that my blog has the wide readership of derek wee's, or even your own, and my intention was more to vent my own frustrations than public denouncement.

i'd also like to clarify my use of the word "elite". while i understand how misinterpretation may have arose, i intended to use it in irony, as a label that people assume i enjoy, and not one that i take particular pleasure in.

finally, i admit that i was harsher than i should have been, although the the crux of my belief in self-improvement and self-determination has not changed. once again, i apologise if my words have unintentionally offended you - i was under the rather naive impression that nobody reads my blog :)

However, netizens were not impressed with the apology and continued to criticize her for her original posting and "weak defense".

Ms Wee Shu Min could not be reached for comment.

Talk about proper screen before bring selected to stand in an election. With such a daughter, l just wonder what type of screen is done for all the MPs...This girl deserved to be a comfort woman and her dad strip of the post of an MP.....

Its good for her to have apologised,
but the tone and manner of her apology fall short
of the something called "regret" or "repentence".

ok she did apologise..

but is that how our bright future leaders really think about people who are not as smart as them?

everybody knows that if ure gona write in broken english, ure not gona make it to the forum, unless they do some editting for u. and its a paper chse in singapore, its a known fact wad, haha higher qualifications = higher chance of getting a job/keeping a job. its a fact of life. and its expectations. u can always get a iron rice bowl. go work in the construction sites or smth. so many foreign workers cos singaporeans dont want the job right. haha

but the girl is so naive as well. being a mp daughter, naive of the internet world.

no pt making a big hooha. cos both sides are making something out of nothing. waste of timee

Singaporean leaders have really got to learn that they are not rulers. The purpose of democracy is not to elect rulers, and the people and the PAP needs to learn this. They are there to not rule but to serve the people's interests. There are no kings in parliament, nor lords or barons or dukes. They are not rulers over anything. If anything, they are servants. They exist to serve people by helping them make decisions on their behalf. Their role is to represent the point of view of every Singaporean in those hallowed walls. They do not have the right to give people rights. They exist only to ensure that the inalienable rights of the people are not tampered with.

The problem is, Singaporean leaders have begun to think of themselves as rulers. They have started to think that theirs is a position of power, and that they deserve it for whom they are. They have forgotten that it is the people who are in power, and not them. It is the people who keep them in power and not them. It is the people who pay their salaries and fund their daughters' education.

Singaporean leaders need to get a dose of humility, and maybe then they wouldn't raise such children.

IF this person was some other chap on the streets talking about those in government he would be sued till his ass bled, but if you are the daughter of an MP, you get as many free passes to do shit as you like. No wonder the Lady of Justice wears a blindfold.

Which planet is the young lady from?? Such arrogance at such a young age and I hope not all Rafflesians think the same way too!

It seems the GEP program got wasted on her, could have benefited a more deserving candidate from a more humble backgrd.

I am an American. Her views sound just like Bush and the Republican party.

These are the same words I hear over and over again from Republican radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

I think readers treated her in an unfair manner. Although I do not completely agree with her views, but the comments here are just too biased and some even seem childish, which attack her in a uncivilized way, no reasoning and no support of arguement...

She’s not sorry. Don’t kid yourself.

It doesn’t matter whether she was ranting, as she claims, or whether she expected her blog to be read. She’s indicative of a certain mind-set that dominates in government and in the class that it actually serves (upper-middle and upper class).

The Gini index is an index that measures the extent to which the distribution of income within a country deviates from a perfectly equal distribution. A value of 0 represents perfect equality, a value of 100 perfect inequality. Sweden has a Gini index of 25, Japan 24.9 (surprise, surprise!). Singapore has a Gini index of 42.5. (Surprise, surprise! We’re worse than Poland, 34.1; Azerbaijan 36.5; Turkmenistan, 40.8 and Tanzania 38.2)

See — http://hdr.undp.org/statistics/data/indicators.cfm?x=148&y=1&z=1

This girl for all her intelligence isn’t capable of understanding that she is non-neutral, self-interested party in this discussion. She and those of her ilk have a vested interest in the Gini index remaining this way. Her father’s job in a top government-linked company, the resources thrown at the GEP, at RJC, the awards she wins for excelling in narrowly-defined measures of intelligence. (See Harvard psychologist Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligence - just google) Her remarks are a self-interested attack on Derek’s claim on the public purse because she herself has claims on the public purse. (i.e. status quo conservatism in which nothing changes and the Gini index remains the same). She attacks Derek’s sense of entitlement because her own sense of entitlement is under threat by the likes of him. Why spend government money on him when you can spend it on me! (i.e. scholarships etc, followed by cushy jobs in Singapore inc.)

The most revealing thing she says is this: “it’s so sad when people like old derek lament the kind of world that singapore will be if we make it so uncertain. go be friggin communist, if uncertainty of success offends you so much”

She uses vulgarity with the term “communist” because any kind of social-democratic inclinations threatens her goodies. E.g. Sharing the pie in an equal manner, looking after the poor and the underprivileged, safety-nets.

Oh - BTW - Don’t expect to read this in the Straits Times

A damn shock experience to see an 18 year old RJC schoolgirl to write like a rich spoilt ah lian. Forgive me, the sentences she used was beyond my imagination of an educated person. Now, I know, like daughter like father, the two thinks alike. All the smilling and handshake during GE is but another way of mocking all the idiots that vote for the right's of elitism. Fair, they are elites and we are crackpots. Yes, yes, crackpots that voted her father in(by the way was it a walk-in?). I seriously don't even know who the heck is this wee siew kim until this recent saga. This so call elitist can be such a snob is because he tacked along with bigger elitist during GE. Spoilt ah lian only dare to make such remarks after GE. To use her language "I will kick my own balls" if she dares to do it again in the next GE.

Anonymous said...

I agree with her stand that ppl should adapt to the given scenerio and not cry over spilled milk (if that was her intention in the 1st place). But the way see put it across was of utter insult and senselessness. The apology? As good as not apologising at all. An apology only contains two sentences: I am sorry. This will not happen again.
But not defences of your childish thinking.
And, I sincerely hope that she is an isolated case.

Vicki said...

And that is why I have stopped writing in my blog. Who knows what would happen if people read my blogs when I don't moderate what I rant properly. Sheesh want to rant like that should lock her blog up with password lor.

Then again reading my blog u'd think I'm a depressive sod who needs a psychiatrist.Which I probably do in real life anyway.

it doesn't take too many incidents to realize that the government in singapore is rated to be top 5 in the corruption index.

but wee's argument stands as elitism is invulnerable, if not inevitable.

Quote:< In the recent New Economic Foundation's Happy Planet Index study of 178 countries (based on life expectancy, consumption levels and happiness", Singapore ended up at the bottom position in Asia (ranked 131 of 178)> i was disappointed to read this at first, but it is all just a fact that only us individuals can curb.

i refer to the comment,

I've a friend who was once crazy about this girl who looks alot like her too. One of the things he said when he saw this picture of her was : Man, I'd love to make love to those breasts and she has such a f..kable face. While that is said in very very poor taste, I've seen similar comments on the net as well. Lol, to be honest I'm surprised that one of main topics discussed about her were about her chest size. Anyway I'm just here to enjoy the ride, wonder what'll happen to her.

Anonymous said...

Given that Shumin WAS no Xiaxue or Mr Brown (or Miss Brown for that matter), I highly doubt she would have expected anyone but her closest circle of friends to lay their eyes on her post. That being said, it would only be fair to her to scale down the emotions involved. Afterall, most private bloggers blog about their innermost feelings to their own circle of friends don't they? And logically examining her argument, free from her tone, it's pretty much like the commonplace foreign talent argument - "we must welcome these foreign talent into our country if we want to keep up with our neighbours", coupled with her own personal opinion (ie. "therefore we should stop whining and being so myopic lest our nation degenerates into an economic backward stage where we'll all be much worse off.") which I think she should be entitled to.

And I do find it highly deplorable for people to be criticizing her physical features. Afterall, this should be an ideological battle rather than a superficial exchange of vulgarities and personal insults. By the way, she really is a rather nice person. So before you even meet her, I'd suggest holding your tongue if you're thinking of criticizing her character.

What a bitch. Such a pity girls like her go to good schools. I think they should reconsider her for any university application.

Oh then again... she's 18. And she's 'elite'. So 'elite' that, I guess she left her brains at home while blogging. Oh, I'm sorry.. do you even have one in the 1st place, Mr 'Elite-wannabe' Wee?

Yeah...I'm an elite AMERICAN which makes me like 10 times more elite than an elite singaporean. Watch your mouth little lady, theres always a bigger fish!

Anonymous said...

it's appalling how rich wealthy parents bring up their children. what use is an education when simple basic values such as respect, humility, and politeness to others is abandoned.

with a silver spoon in her mouth since childbirth, she hardly knows what the life of average singaporeans. all she knows is to open her mouth and stretch out her hand for food and money. equally disgusting is how her dear dad condones her, and tries to disguise that with some lame apology which nobody buys.

Anonymous said...

at 18 and probably never worked a day in her life, she is hardly qualified to make comments about working life in singapore. she's nothing but a parasite living off her rich daddy (look at her size). what does she know about struggling singaporeans when all her life is about having maids wait on her, go for expensive holidays, squeeze into tight bikinis, and stuffing her face with good food (look at her size again).

such poor upbringing.

P.S fyi, being an AMERICAN doesnt make anyone more elite. it's pathetic.

Anonymous said...

it's ironic she calls derek (and the rest of us) wretched, undermotivated, overassuming leeches while she herself feeds shamelessly on her daddy dearest in all of her 18 yrs.

how 'elite' is that? more like spineless if you ask me.

Anonymous said...

Come on, she didn't say anything about everyone else being wretched leeches. she's referring to anyone who is complaining without doing a thing to improve themselves. Fact is that we know that there are lots of avenues for us to improve ourselves here in Singapore. Education is abundant. Don't you agree?

While she may have been over harsh and extremely tactless (which was obviously the entire fault or rather "wrong" in her entry), she has indeed made some valid points.

The underlying meaning of her entire blog post simply carries the message of having to have self determination and motivation. I really do not see what's so wrong about that.

And I really don't see the purpose of jumping at her and accusing her of so many things. Come on, she's freaking 18! What are you people, 20 year-olds, 30s, 40s? You should know better than to stoop to the level of an 18 year-old girl's maturity and scream harsh notes at her right?

Other than Derek Wee, i'm sorry to say that I dont believe she needs to apologise to anyone else. Should anyone be feeling ridiculed by her, it is unfounded. Other than mr Derek Wee, I see no obvious description of anyone else. Please, in her blog, she hasnt even mentioned another name, or come close to defaming anyone else in particular.

And sorry to say, who should be reading her blog but the people she gave her password to? It really is an invasion of privacy... which would NOT be the case ONLY if she didnt put a password over her blog. Fact is that she did. Shouldnt you all be ashamed of yourselves?

Anonymous said...

Being 18 does not mean you can get away with saying anything that you like. You can get jailed if you commit a crime at age 18.

She is not wrong to say that Derek should stop whining and start doing something about his life. It is her attitude that is worrying. Do you remember yourself having such an attitude at 18? If I am her father, I would have given her one times good tongue-lashing! On top of that, I would never have allowed her to make a snobbish apology. Don't you see that she had apologise grudgingly?

There are many more people who are shocked at her behaviour and would like to say something about it. Whether the supporters or proponents of this smug likes it or not, she will continue to be tongue lashed by many people for a while.

Anonymous said...

Why should we be ashamed? She is the one with the bad attitude and not us.

Anonymous said...

I do agree that self-determination and motivation are good values that people should have.

The problem here is, I agree with the above two posts, that it is her attitude that is extremely disturbing.

Here is a girl, from a top school in Singapore, part of the gifted program, and talking like that. What does this reflect of her upbringing? what does this reflected of her father's mindset? And, since her father works for the gahmen, what then does this show of the mindset of the gahmen by recruiting such people?

Singapore will be doomed if such snobbish, uncaring (really uncaring!) people make up the gahmen. Leaders of a country should care for its people. It is true that citizens should do what they can for themselves, but the gahmen should do their part too, having been elected by the people, for the people. It becomes extremely plain that the "plebians" of Singapore have been playing a squash game, throwing a ball at the wall with no one to bring it back to us. And if the brainiest, most intelligent younsters who are groomed in top schools with our taxpayers' money are gonna make up the gahmen of the future and lead our country this way,...man I hate to think of what can happen.

Anonymous said...

Right, who apologizes with a smiley face? Goddammit.

Anonymous said...

Stop condemning her for her views. There are truths in her views and really, some people have to stop whining already and do something about the situation they are in.

The only thing bad about her is probably how she wrote her views. It was harsh, blunt and extremely honest. And we all know how much the truth hurts. But isn't that what life is about anyway? Life's not easy. And you yourself are in god damn control of it. So bloody hell get a grip, and do something instead of whining and slamming people for telling you to do it.

She should only be apologising for her attitude to Derek Wee and no one else. Her blog entry was her personal opinion and therefore, she has every right to express it.

And those immature posters who go on critising her about how she looks, seriously, that's unnecessary and totally out of point.

Regarding to Anonymous Sun Nov 12, 06:37:51 PM 2006 comment...i totally disagree. yes Ms Wee has her right to use insensitive words on Mr Derek Wee, i dun deny that. But we as an audiences also haf the rights to express ourselves too on her comments. This is democracy in the cybernet. Indeed some have been harsh on her, but don't you tink Ms Wee brought it upon herself. On top of that, Her father's apology was terrible, i cant imagine thats how an MP actually pharse his words. His apology is so superficial and shows no sign of sincernity. i hope to see him step down from his MP post. If You tink that we haf the power to control our own life,You are so wrong, so native similar to Ms Wee, anoymous!! How abt the poor in sg, have you consider the barriers they have to faced compare with better off Sg? Do you tink simply hard work, intelligence is enough for them to be successful in life? N if the poor failed to be successful, do you tink its simply their laziness or lack of motivation?

Anonymous said...

To Annoymous Mon Nov 13, 12:54:08 AM 2006 :

No. We really do have control of our own lives. Just because we live in Singapore DOESN'T mean that the Government runs your lives. We STILL have CHOICES. And if you choose to think that you have no control of your own life, then you're really pathetic. You have no ambition and no sense of self-pride. And that, it's what my friends from overseas studying in Singapore think about us Singaporeans.

What bloody else is there besides hard work and intelligence to succeed? While I agree that factors like the Government policies and all that affects you, MAJORITY of SUCCESS IN LIFE STIL DEPENDS ON YOU. If you're unable to get a job, go upgrade ur skills and shit. If you can't afford courses, I'm pretty sure there are many financial assitance out there run by various charities and organisations. It's only a matter of KNOWING where to go or FINDING OUT WHERE instead of SITTING THERE AND CRYING ABOUT IT. And don't expect jobs to come falling down from the sky, it takes time. If you can't get the job you desire, don't be PICKY , take up whatever you're OFFERED if you're so in need of cash, instead of blaming the Government for everything.

Now, seriously. Think about it. Do you really believe that the poor in Singapore are really left in the lurch? I don't think so. They are in fact getting help.

Anonymous said...

Regards to Anoymous Mon Nov 13, 08:25:58 PM 2006, i belief you misunderstood what i haf written. neither haf i written that the govt control our freedom to be sucessful n nor did i say success doesnt require our efforts n hard work.

What i did meant however, is that the environment factors does play a part on our oppotiunity to succeed. yes again i find you being native abt the fact that the poor are getting help. do u really tink so? What do you tink abt the guy who committed suicide in the Mrt station? He n his wife income are less than 1.5k per month (if i can still rem), with 2 children to feed, provide them education, n medical care if they fall sick.n not forgetting their basic needs. comparing this child life oppotiunities with another child say average middle income family, who do you tink will stand a higher chance in succeeding? there are more plp who r deny the chance to be successful than you can imagine, its not only just hard work n intelligence. you totally ignore the enviroment factors that also play a role in a person's life. i realise not only u r native, you speak like plp haf no motivation to work hard. n plp r poor because of their short comings rather than society flaws. do you tink the poor haf the privilages to use the internet to find info, tv to recieve news like the both of us, use the telephone to dial 100 (some still dun haf telephones) or are able to read the newspaper(literally or financially)? how abt the old people, the handicapped, haf you include them in the socially disadvantage plp? you really make tings sound so easy by "judging other people's life from the standard of your own" maybe u come from a family which could provide u a proper education, more basic needs than others n which you dun haf to worry or work veri hard for it. if you n ur friends do tink SGporeans whine alot abt the no freedom from govt, what do you n ur friends tink abt the americans, europeans who goes on strike against their goverment policies? r ur friends well-to-do people as well, who like u judge plp by their own standard? haf they live in sg long enough or stayed in HDB flat along with different plp from different backgroups b4 making their judgement?

However it is still a fact that such comments shouldn't come from a MP's daughter, especially with remarks like (get out of my elite face etc.). This only brings hatred and some lame apologies wont do it. Like what some of the previous users have mentioned, if words as such comes out from normal citizens like us, we would probably end up in jail.
In regards to what one of the users said on sunday nov 11 - "Stop condemning her for her view, she should only be apologising for her attitude to Derek Wee and no one else", for this i have to totally disagree with you. If u have read carefully on what she has posted, her views are just pure discrimination against classes of people in which she put so clearly across the board as elites in contrast with middle class people. Yes, i agree that everyone is free to express on what they want however if you are saying that is correct that she should only apologise to derek, then i ought to rub my eyes on what wee has refer to as middle class people. I guess she was brought up in a manner where everything comes to her with ease and i guess the same goes along for you.
YES! Indeed, life is unfair but in any case she shouldn't post such comments. If u agree so much to such thinkings, the anonymous person who post on nov 11 sunday, i urge you to carefully think through for those people who have to support their family since young, who can't have a proper education, those who have to skip classes to go help out their ill-sick parents in their small little shops, those young children whom their parents died young and have to find ways to cope with life. For you i think you're just one of those "silverspoons" who has yet to have a taste of how hard life is and how other people are coping. I bet you are very angry now, however there's one thing i will agree with you that is there's some people out there who are just leeching and getting away with life but some people are not and are trying to be on their very best. To such people like wee and you who never gave a thought to the people i've mention, well all i have to say is that you are just one of those people who speak in the interest of their own trying to defend your own kind, without giving a serious thought about those people who really need help. I guess she in return should stop leeching from her parents in which she openly said other people are leeching from the government. Lets take a look isn't she slapping herself in the face by referring other people as leeches... when she is one? Get a life..

I am a poor Singapore who had to pay for my university education while working and finally my master degree while doing an overseas work assignment. As like the rest of the Singaporeans, I believed in my government, heed their advice to leave Singapore to venture into the world as part of globalisation. Leaving my old mother in Singapore, I live alone overseas without family and friends support. I yearn to come back to Singapore one day, with better income earnings and with enough money to retire in a ever costs increasing Singapore. I know about this Wee saga only a few days ago during a Singaporean group gathering with friends. Subsequently my friend has sent the link to me. It is sad to know the government are Breeding such next generation and also sad to know even the current generation of government policy makers happened to be the parent of the ranting girl. Where does the government expects us to return to? To a country whom I was once proud of, whom serve its people unlike others, whom take care of its people because Singapore has nothing but people. It is the people who made Singapore what it is today, regardless of which level they were. In the 80s, it is the shipyard industry to provided work and made Singapore the No. 1 port in Asia. To be No.1, we depended on the no-education, hard labourers where we had our foundation built. Singaporeans should never forget where our roots are from. Not from silver spoils or some kind of elite program. The so called elites got where they are from the people. If you, in the government, forget this point, you as a government, failed us.

In Singapore, life is simple. Move out of Singapore, in any case, Ms Wee, you will never make it in 2 weeks. If you are here, where I am, and I know you by face, you won't even live to see tomorrow sunrise if you don't apologise properly. This is how life is. So, be nice.

LOL! Another one smartypants who got slapped in her mouth for saying something she thinks sounds so clever.

Indeed, she'll now be remembered for being in the elite dumb bloggers category the rest of her life. Just leave her be guys - She has already decided what she wants to be remembered for and it'll stay that way, knowing there won't be much else she will be remembered for on her miserable little life. Congratulations baby... :)

And for the record, that was the most hypocritical apology anyone has ever read. It's amazing how apologies are made with strategically placed defenses in that apology. Oh I know... She's just trying to be frank.. Hmm.. You know, I wish to be frank about something too.. Something on your face... and... something on your tummy... Let's be frank and make a REASONABLE point like what your father supported - You are really fat and ugly. Don't get me wrong.. You are still an elite... You are just fat and ugly elite. Cheers! :)

My friend got me to read this. First of all,her look are basically already like S*** and yet she still can gave such comment despite her education!! Did our education system taught us these? *sigh there's a saying father like son but also father like daughter. But I rather said the bigger the @@ the smaller their brain for thoughts on basic sense they had and you wanna know why? as most of the basic senses were occupied on her @@ before reaching her brain.

Surely she's an arrogant elite, but judging ppl from their look, it's even worse.

I just feel like I really need to say something here even if I am siding with Ms Wee Shu Min, not to mention that I might be too late into the conversation. But here goes my 2 cents:
I've read her blogpost in response to Derek's post, and while I do not think an 18-yr-old should talk to/about a 40-yr-old like that, I also completely understand her point. To put it clearly, I'll give you 2 situations:
Situation 1: A and B are your employees , you are the Owner and you're deciding who to promote between the two. You saw 'A' works very hard, committed and has contributed a lot to the improvement of the company. 'B', on the other hand, goes to work everyday, but does nothing 50% of the time. Who would you choose?

Situation 2: You are desperately looking for an assisstant/draftsman/etc. You prefer Singaporeans or PR. A lot of calls came and 80% of them fit the job qualification except one: theyre neither Singaporean nor a PR. You've waited but no Singaporean or PR called that qualified the job. What would you do?

In the first situation, you would promote person A irregardless of her nationality because he's what your company needs. (If he happened to be Singaporean, then it's fair to you guys, right? If not, then he's an alien loser who stole what's supposed to be yours, am I right?)
In the second situation, the owner does not have a choice but to hire foreigners because no Singaporean with the skillset he needs wants the job!

To be honest, it's quite hard to get a job here in SG if you're a foreigner as the employers usually look for you Singaporeans first! There's also a lot of paperworks involved so the employers would avoid it if they can, right? So the moment they hire us, foreigners, it's because they really need to (why? refer to the 2 situations above)!

Wee Shin was brave to have tried to get her point across, the only mistake she did was to forget that Singapore is a place filled with insecure people who needs guidance when comprehending English rants filled with sarcasm. :/

wow the first few comments just display classlessness. im from a top ip school and to be honest, the people hating on her are the classless ones. people who are truly educated and would obviously be hurt by her original post, are just keeping silent instead of adding *sorry to say* low quality fuel to a spreading fire. youre only embarrassing yourselves.
