Was it a conspiracy?

In what has become Malaysia's public agenda paralleling the extent and impact of Singapore's very own NKF Saga, the announcement that the whistle blower will be the one who will be punished instead of the female police officer "who was just doing her job" shocked many and brought out a few issues to be considered:

What message is the Malaysian Government sending out by going after the whistle blower?

Are the ear squats really standard operating procedures?

Is there more to it than meets the eye? In the video, it seems as if the victim knew that she was being filmed (23rd second, 68th second). Was this a conspiracy? Is that why they are going after the "whistle blower"?

Watch the video again carefully.

The Clip that rocked the Malaysian Blogosphere

After running some searches I managed to find a link to the clip portraying police abuse that was shown in the malaysian parliament.

Warning: The following clip contains nudity. Viewers' discretion is advised.
Download the clip here.

Jeff Ooi has a comprehensive coverage of the story.

The 5th Month Entry

It's been exactly 5 months since I started this site. I have watched it grow from 3,000 visitors in the first 5 days till its present state of close to 140,000 visitors.

Maintaining a blog isn't easy. Over the last few months, so many blogs have shut down that I have lost count - and I am not talking about blogs with only 1 or 2 visitors. I am referring to those with thousands of visitors a month - blogs like http://verypoisonouslady.blogspot.com/ for example. I am growing tired of writing for free myself, when I can get paid to write instead. Incidentally, I just realised that the 6th month mark of this blog falls exactly on Christmas. Will this blog still be around then? I don't know.

Anyway some of you have asked me: "Who is Daphne Teo?". Well maybe this article will help.

For those who are wondering, the original source of the first pic is here. This was taken in 2002. The second pic, if I am not wrong, was taken from the now defunct pinkshoefetish.blogspot.com this year. Maybe now readers can appreciate some of the different issues that have been discussed between Dawn Yang/Yeo and Daphne Teo.

Daphne Teo?

I am contemplating writing about Daphne Teo, but I am taking the Dawn Yang/Yeo issue into consideration, seeing how it was blown entirely out of proportion. I am also wondering if I should allow comments IF I decide to write about Daphne Teo. I already have some material ready. Of course the ultimate decision lies in my hands but I would just like to hear the views from my readers. Anyone?

Transcript of my correspondence with Straits Times Reporter Melissa Lwee

http://xialanxue.blogspot.com will be featured in the "Digital Life" section of the Straits Times tomorrow. To provide better clarity about the site's stand with regards to the Dawn Yang/Yeo issue and to guard against any misquotes, the following transcript is provided for reference.

This was the email I received from the Straits Times Reporter Melissa Lwee last wednesday.

This was my reply.

P.S. I have decided to re-enable comments. To facilitate discussion (there were too many people with the nick "anonymous" in the past) and to minimize abuse, readers are now required to register an account with blogspot in order to make comments. As readers are required to log in to make comments, this will enable blogspot to easily and accurately track down all IPs as and when necessary. Readers should also understand that I reserve the right to disable comments at any time.

Please read the following disclaimer (adapted from SPH) carefully before making any comments:

I can no longer stand people USING the comments area here to flame others and then TRYING TO GET ME INTO TROUBLE because of the things THEY SAY. I have already made it explicitly clear that the comments left by the readers are not representative of the views of this site but it seems to me that people are unable to make the distinction.

I am going to turn off comments (using the "hide comments" function in blogger, comments are not being deleted) for now and I want you guys to read the entries AS THEY WERE WRITTEN, without the effect of the comments left by the general public. You should be able to see that I have never made any claims/allegations and I presented the information sent to me from both the readers as well as Dawn. Email me at xialanxue@gmail.com to tell me if there is a difference in the way you view the entries with and without the comments.

I think a lot of people have missed my point in the whole episode. My point can be summed up here.

Open Letter to the Blogosphere [Dawn Yang/Yeo's Clarification]

Dear Citizens of the Blogosphere

Dawn has requested me to put up this excerpt (of a series of back-and-forth emails) so that she can clarify herself, defend against some of the misunderstandings/rumors floating around in the blogosphere and hopefully end the speculations out there. Note that even though there were quite a number of exchanges, this is the only amount of information she legally permits me to publish and she also requested that I turn off comments on this entry.

Dawn would also like to take this opportunity to plead with all bloggers to stop any and all speculations about her as it has caused her and her family much anguish. The only information that she has chosen to reveal is contained in its entirety in this email and no other questions about any other aspects of her life would be entertained.

Please help to spread this message around.

Regards
xlx
