For the answer to that trying googling corruption in government in some of our neighboring countries which can sometimes be traced to poor pay of civil servants and ministers. Yes we have the highest paid ministers but I'd hazard to guess a much lower rate of graft etc.
On the flipside if any of the ministers actually do steal money or do shady deals the penalty should be as high as death. Economic sabotage...
The same thing is going on right now in Germany. Taxes going to rise to 19% from 16% in 2007, taxes for internet-capable computers etc... Masses are already complaining, but the only difference is that the ruling party in Germany is sure to lose seats in the Bundestag in the next election. Singapore will see no such PAP-not-anymore-the-ruling-party situation. God Bless. Happy new year 2007 nevertheless!

eh can we do sth against xiaxue
not a government supporter but rising the gst would increase the budget by billions and cutting the ministers pay would only save a couple of million?

If the common dudes are paying 7% for GST, the ministers should pay around 10%.
