Jessica and Karen shows their "love" for Singapore

It’s national day and I wanted to write an entry on being Singaporean. So I was doing some research and came upon this thumbnail in google images when I searched for “Singapore Flag” (Try it yourself!).

Of course the image immediately caught my attention – 2 girls using our national flag to wrap up their bodies and posing cheekily for the camera.

I delved deeper and found the source of the photos originating from a yahoo album linked from this guy’s site (link will not be given but I have included a pic found from his main page below).

Apparently the photo has been posted since sept 2004 and appeared in the world’s number 1 search engine (google) every time anyone all over the world searched for the term “Singapore flag”! Someone stumbled upon the photo in March this year and the forums were abuzz with discussions on whether the girls should be punished for disgracing our national flag.

The only other piece of information I could dig out are the girls’ names – the one on the left is called “Jessica” and the one on the right “Karen”. Maybe those readers who know these girls personally can comment and tell us a little more about them and why they think it’s so funny to treat our national flag with such contempt.

don't be ridiculous. How is this contempt? Contempt is spitting on it.

A laughable attemp to create even more controversies, xlx. I don't see anything wrong with that picture. And definately no 'contempt' in it. Try harder.

wtf. You sound as uptight and restrictive as what the Singapore Government has been up to lately. I see nothing wrong with that picture. Lots of people wear their country's flag to portray their patriotism as well. Think Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice from the Spice Girls) who wore the image of the Union Jack on her skimpy tops and dresses. whatever, xlx *rolls eyes*

If you watched the World Cup, you'll see flags of various countries being used in ways much worse than this.

And those are fans who are proud of their countries- supporting their countrymen on the pitch.

Go figure.
