HDB Upgrading for Opposition Wards: Policy remains unchanged???

I feel for the residents in Hougang and Potong Pasir. I feel especially for the old folks living in HDB flats that require lift upgrading - upgrading that is definitely long overdue. National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan believes that it is only FAIR to place PAP wards before Opposition wards when it comes to upgrading, since the residents in those wards have chosen the PAP - But how can the government even believe that they are being FAIR this way? Is it FAIR for the old folks in Hougang and Potong Pasir to suffer by not having lifts that stop at every floor of their ridiculously priced HDB flats?

Is tying upgrading priority to election results the sign of a caring government who takes into account the needs of ALL its citizens?

I hope Grace Fu, incoming Minister, National Development, would look into the matter seriously.

It was named the Ministry of National Development, not Ministry of Selective Development.

Why don't Singapore go communist instead? Why ask the people to choose the government when it is a forced election?

The opposition ward is not so bad afterall. True, its a little old and such but hey the lift upgrade done by the town council is free!!!!!!!!!(NO NEED TO PAY 1 cent) Somemore conservancy charges i think is the lowest in Singapore. Where to find?

To anonymous (Tue Jun 13, 11:25:10 AM 2006):

The related article on page 10 of the sunday times states that right now, for upgrading (and this applies to all town councils), the flat owners must co-pay 5-12.5%.

i thought there have been enough feedback from the ground via all kinds of channel that upgrading and choosing of political should not be linked???? obviously the ruling party continues to do their own ways and refuse to listen.

To xlx

Sorry abt the lack of clarity. The upgrade to the lift i that mentioned was b4 the co-pay rule/law (i believe).

They are fair to me what...!
I voted for the fountain they offered me and now they have to build it. If they build lifts for people who don't vote for the lifts, then those of us who lifts will be really pissed off.

You must understand what your vote is for okay. If you misunderstand you can only blame yourself.

If you still don't understand visit my blog :

To LuckySingaporean:

You can't treat those people like an outcast just because they didn't vote for the ruling party.

They are Singaporean afterall, holding a valid birthcert and a valid IC. Bear in mind they entitled to choose, that is why there is an election. Whether they chose party A or party B, in the end of the day they ARE still Singaporean. In the end of the day the ruling party still have to treat them equally, treat them as one.

You cannot be selective to those didn't vote for you. What about equal rights? Why hold an election at the first place? Why the people with equal status has to be treated an "A/B" standard? Wasn't it more like a forced election?

Republic of Singapore. Not Communist.

This is why democracy doesn't work.

Besides, if I want my upgrading, but disagree with everything else the gvt is doing, should I still vote PAP? How will I live with myself? By voting PAP, I am condoning such petty tactics aren't I? Politics and ethics need not always be mutually exclusive. We're talking about a gvt that preaches morals like "STONE THE GAYS (because the bible said so)" even when proclaimed "secular".

Why should upgrading of flats to tied to parties? Does it mean that if I vote for any party except PAP, I do not need to pay tax? Does is mean that I am not a Singaporean? Just because PAP is the ruling party doesn't mean that they only answer to people who vote for them. Priority should be given to aging estates without lifts that stop on every flat. It always seemed to me that PAP only hear voices that they wish to hear.

Let's face it. Whether you support PAP or not, PAP can do any damn thing they want...

In my view, there was never a real elections in the history of Singapore when PAP came into power.
