I am not an expert at facial analysis although I do notice at first glance that there is something wrong with the picture because I couldn't achieve the same effect when trying to imitate that expression in the mirror. Maybe some experts would like to share their insights.

ReplyDeleteThank you for responding. I was asking if you actually keep a record of the IPs or do you actually have any scripts installed that store the IPs of the commentors and how confidential are the IPs being kept.
I've seen many who posted their opinions which might subjected them to defarmation issues. It is an open forum for open participations, yes, but you can't denied that many posted at that spur of moment with offensive choice of words without much thoughts being rendered about the possible consequences.
If you have the IPs, I think it would be better that you indicated to the commentors that their IPs are stored(If, it is) and it will allow them to pause for a second and phrase their words in a less offensive ways. You don't take away their rights to speak but they have to stand up for their own actions if they are being asked for.
I believe you allow freedom of speech but you don't encourage them to speak up without knowing the likely consequences, do you?
Do you know where I could get such a script? I don't think blogspot has that feature (Not that I am aware of anyway).

There's is nothing wrong with plastic surgery and I have done some research on it as I was/am intending to get some..
It is clear that dawn has done a rhinoplasty, if you notice the bottom inner corner of her right eye, the skin has been overstretched because of the insert to make her bridge taller and straighter. I'm pretty sure her mom has had surgery on her eyes too.
But once again, i reiterate my point that there's nothing wrong with plastic surgery. Just that if she has the guts to go for it, she should have the guts to admit it. No one would have faulted her if she hasn't been so evasive or if she hadn't lied. I'm sure all of you know the open secret that a majority of actors and singers have gone under the knife.
What Dawn did is one thing, but don't drag her mother, or indeed any of her family, into this.

So we, people from this age group, probably treat the 2 names as interchangeable. It's one thing if you say that Dawn lied about her having plastic surgery, but it is quite another to start dragging her family into this. If you are a responsible journalist, as you say you are, please take the picture down. Confine your arguments to the girl herself, not her mother or indeed, anymore of her family members.

How different are you from XX, whom you condemn, if you start implicating other people in this saga? Also, while I can see some sense in your argument that Dawn, having said in public that she did not have surgery and is now a mini-celeb because of her looks, should have a case to answer, I think it is in poor taste that you have published her photos in such blatant fashion. You have irreversibly steered the public's (or at least your readers') views in one direction. Why, I can pick up Harry Potter at MPH or Popular bookstore. The fact that they are in public circulation does not give me the right to reproduce it in its entirely. Same for the photographs - the face that these are in public circulation does not necessarily mean (save in limited situations) that you have the right to plaster the photo on your blogsite.
For a supposed media journalist, you don't really appear aware that your actions are potentially exposing to some trouble.

The retreat to the "self-righteous" argument is not very helpful when the tag itself is easily applicable to each and every reader here. Isn't the writer above being equally "self-righteous" by expressing his anger against these so-called "self-righteous" post.
The truth is, the above post misses the point entirely. Yes, we "self-righteous" readers read this blog but not necessarily because we're interested in whether Dawn has or has not had surgery. That is her privacy and I respect that - public figure or not (even that is debatable). I think we're more interested in stopping this nonsense of invading a poor girl and her mother's privacies.

From where I come from (Earth), a parody seeks to mimic its target with the aim of making some statement, usually funny, about it. Your site, on the other hand, is not a parody to begin with. It is a hate-site, pure and simple.
What is the objective truth? Posting a picture of XX in front of a Star Wars poster and saying that she is jealous of Dawn without dicephering what she actually meant in her blog - is that being concerned with the truth?
Or does being concerned with the truth involve plastering pictures of someone from Sec 1 to now (spanning some 10 years) and asking, quite without reason, in an "open letter" for nothing less than a confession.
The TRUTH is that this site has assumed the truth is many instances. An objective concern/search for the truth does not involve subjective and mocking opinions which originate from this site.

(as you should know, being a journalist and all) The newspaper can claim that it never did approve of the defamatory comments but that would not be relevant. Maybe for damages. But for liability it's not relevant. If you're truly worried - as I think you are since you've put the above notice up and taken down the URL print on the picture - I suggest you start moderating (to show some effort) or just shut down this topic. This isn't against XLX or who ever - it's just some advice for your own good.
Shiling, Please do yourself a favour and look up on the tort of defamation before embarassing yourself.

Dawn is such a nice girl, why can't you all just leave her alone? All she did was to put pictures of herself online and blog, and here everyone wants to play detective? "oh look her nose dosent wrinkle", "such a face cant be make by someone who's not plastic LOL".

Guys, you can argue all you want, but it's the agency that offered her a contract because of her "extraordinary" looks--and it will be the agency that has the final say whether it's fine or not for her to have undergone plastic surgery. If Dawn is less than truthful when she signs on the dotted line, that--and any subsequent consequences--is between her and her agency.

ReplyDeleteRegardless whether you feel that xlx has deliberately set up a clever trap to be sprung by dawn haters and lovers is not of paramount importance. Most important is: have we been taken for a ride?
Online blogs are considered part of constructive and democratic journalism, but it must be remembered that online media is a totally different form as compared to traditional media - there are so many factors that are uncontrollable. Truths normally hidden by those in power can come to light. Unfortunately in similar fashion, lies can be vastly moulded into truths.
How you interpret this topic here is your choice. The only problem is coming to accept it as truth. We often berate people for lying, yet the nature of online presence itself is dubious. Even as i post this message as an anonymous user, my identity and motives are hidden. Do you take my words as truth or fallacy?
Don't simply take in everything you see. There are a good 6 billion people in this world, each individual a unique set of thought processes. It's impossible to believe any 1 opinion, or even a set of similar opinions. So please, don't get worked up over such issues.Unless we experience it ourselves(which in itself bears no guarantee, since people can perceive things differently), many things cannot be defined as truth based on opinion.
Cosmetic surgery or not, claiming natural beauty or not, purposefully flaming people or not, take it with a pinch of salt. Don't believe everything you read or hear aqbout. Especially not in this faceless online world.

Aren't you yourself guilty of negotiated reading and oppositional decoding when you read XX's latest post about Dawn not being a blogger? Instead of reading her post objectively, you chose to impose your post feelings and immediately labelled XX as "jealous" and plastered her picture in front of a Star Wars poster for all to see on this site.
ReplyDeleteHere's what I suggest: if you want to stop people from misinterpreting your views, I suggest you yourself start having some objectivity. The purpose of this site started out to be objective but the constant XX bashing with little or no reason has skewed the site towards a little more than a bashing site.
That is why people are starting to read things into your Dawn postings. True, taken from a step back, you may not have intended any of the comments coming from here, intending only an objective discussion. But your objectivity has been severely hampered by your posts about XX and that is coming back to hit you hard.
Everything you post now on will be subject to negotiated reading and oppositional decoding and that is because, in a large part, you started it first.

ReplyDeleteGuys, if you DO notice, I am writing on a blog now, not a newspaper. It's a different medium and I AM allowed to include my feelings and opinions and when feelings and opinions are involved, there WILL be subjectivity.
If you noticed, in a real NEWSPAPER report, everything will be from a Third person perspective. On a blog, it's a First person perspective. There's a huge difference writing in a blog and in a newspaper and I KNOW THAT.
A journalist who blogs need not be writing newspaper reports in his/her blog. This is an avenue where I share my thoughts - I already made it clear - I share my views but you guys are the ones who have your own views and your views are most likely going to differ from mine.
The thing is that some are taking the views of others on this site (anyone who comments) as my views. Please get this clear - Those are other people's views. Don't mix them up. My views are different from those who choose to take on negotiated reading and oppositional decoding and that is the point I am making. Simple as that.

This is riddiculous. Just leave the girl alone. Even if its true she had plastics, so what if she's lying ? She's not vying for the president's office. Don't you guys ever tell lies ? Are you never insecure about yourself and are you always moral and righteous ? Is the flaming because you are jealous or just too free ? There is no need to expose or interrogate anyone like that. How does it benefit society ? This issue can be likened to religious freedom. Everyone has a choice and must be respected. I'm just thankful that we get to see a picture of someone who does really look gorgeous. So why complain ?

ReplyDeleteI'm no law buff, but in an event of a libel law suit, the plantiff needs to prove the falsehood (it can only be libel IF AND ONLY IF the statement made was false) of that the defamatory claim for the defendent to be proven guilty. That will require medical records to be produced and will completely make the matter transparent to the general public. See http://www.uow.edu.au/arts/sts/bmartin/dissent/documents/defamation.html (I'm based in Australia btw but most Commonwealth laws are similar)
So no in my humble opinion, she would not dare to even think of suing for that will be digging her own grave. Also the legal costs of a defamatory suit is staggering and that will probably bankrupt her family.
Moral of the story: Threats of litigation are tools to intimidate and curb the freedom of speech. Blog on xlx!

They are fighting for survival, food and shelter and here we r fighting about plastic surgery. DOnt you think the time spent gossiping, speculating rumours, lying etc. will be better spent helping ppl in Aceh, Lousiana or N Korea etc.? Compared to what these suffering ppl are going thru, we are really shallow and baseless!!
